China’s National Development and Reform Commission has ordered local authorities to issue fines to 10 Carefour Outlets and three Walmart stores for breaches of the country’s pricing laws.

According to a report from French news agency AFP, the outlets had deceived customers over the price of goods by charging more than what was listed on labels.

Authorities have the power the dish out fines five times the amount that was overcharged or up to US$76,000 if the fines cannot be calculated, reported the agency.

The commission urged authorities to increase price investigations as part of a push to control inflation in the country.
