China Fruits is a leading producer and distributor of tangerines in China, now poised to enter domestic fruit e-commerce

Tangerine and fresh fruit producer-distributor China Fruits has announced its intention to enter the digital world, with plans to launch a flagship store with leading online Chinese retailer Alibaba.

The company has released a statement stating its in the preparatory stages of launching an online store using Alibaba’s subsidiary Tmall, and will eventually extend its online presence to other business-to-consumer platforms such as JD.com and Yhd.com.

“The huge traffic and high user trust of Tmall could enable the company to make a major breakthrough into the domestic fruit e-commerce,” said China Fruits chief executive Quanlong Chen in a press release. “Through Tmall’s mature technical platform and high quality customer service, we are now establishing a basis for future branding and official website traffic attracting.”

According to the China Fruits press release, opening an e-commerce store with Alibaba would provide “powerful access to the non-China markets,” and would be the first step in creating its own vertically integrated “online distribution and franchise” system.

After posting a 984 per cent increase in the first quarter of 2014 compared to same period last year, China Fruits is rapidly expanding its presence both in China and overseas, with plans to operate 64 retail stores in China by the end of 2014.
