China apples

Chinese apples are expected to arrive in Australia just in time for Christmas, reports ABC.net.

Australia's Biosecurity Services Group has awarded permits allowing apples from Chinese packhouses to enter the country, the website said.

Apple and Pear Australia managing director Jon Durham told ABC.net that the Chinese fruit should not affect local apple prices.

'Chinese apples are going to come into the market that's undersupplied at the moment,' he said. 'The impact would probably be not as great as it would have been had they come into a market where there was a very strong and full supply.'
