Two nations to strengthen commercial links in agriculture, defence and culture
Chile and Vietnam have signed cooperation agreements in the fields of agriculture, defence, culture and trade during a visit this week by Vietnamese president Luong Cuong to the South American nation.
The memorandum of understanding between the ministries of agriculture allows for the establishment of a mechanism to address the challenges of climate change, promote agricultural development and food sustainability.
During the first semester of 2024, bilateral trade between the two nations reached US$803.6mn, an increase of 1.7 per cent compared to the previous year. The Free Trade Agreement between Chile and Vietnam came into force a decade ago.
During his visit, Luong stressed reaffirmed Vietnam’s desire to further promote the comprehensive partnership with Chile, one of its most important partners in the region.
“Although economic relations have made great progress after the FTA, there are still possibilities and opportunities for further development,” Luong said.
