China's cherry market is booming, and two giants of the global cherry business will explain how they’re approaching the opportunity at Asiafruit Market Insight on 28-30 May in Hangzhou.

Keith Hu, directorof international operations for US marketing body Northwest Cherry Growers, will outline the growth of the Northwest cherry industry and its expansion plans in China. Speaking in the session 'E-commerce boom: bringing younger consumers online', Hu will also discuss how the industry plans to build on the success of last year's pioneering promotion with China's biggest online retailer TMall in the upcoming summer campaign.

Meanwhile, Cristian Tagle, chairman of the Chilean Cherry Committee and sales director of leading grower-packer-shipper San Francisco Lo Garces, will discuss the Chilean cherry industry's efforts to increase its market penetration into China's tier-two and -three cities. He'll also explain how producers and shippers in Chile are gearing up to meet China's soaring demand for the fruit.

Joining Tagle on the session 'Latin America: making more of Chinese opportunities' will be Mariella Molina, Consul General of Ecuador in Guangzhou. Molina will reveal how Latin American banana export powerhouse Ecuador is aiming to reclaim its position as a major player in the Chinese market.

Bananas is also the focus for Liu Zijie, general director of major Chinese produce trader Goodfarmer. The company has been busily expanding its banana business in China, opening a large-scale new ripening facility in Guangzhou earlier this year and more recently clinching a supply deal with Chiquita's Ecuadorian operations. Liu will discuss global trends in the banana business, and the opportunity to apply international technologies and solutions in the Chinese market, in the session 'Bridging the gap: new skills, new solutions'.
