Carrefour sign

A €1.31bn (US$1.7bn) fourth quarter profit has helped Carrefour Group record a 10.8 per cent rise in Chinese operating revenues for 2012.

The Chinese market generated €5.58bn (US$7.4bn) in revenue for the European retail giant last year, accounting for just over 6 per cent of the company’s €86.56bn (US$115.78bn) global revenue.

Carrefour’s Chinese operational revenue has risen by an average of 6.4 per-annum since 2007.

Globally, the company’s revenue managed a 1 per cent rise, its smallest since 2005.

The company has 218 stores in China and plans to build another 20 stores per year.
