Bad press is continuing to dog French retailer Carrefour’s Chinese operations following reports two security guards employed by the company assaulted a customer over the weekend.

According to a report in the Straits Times shopper Wang Yongmin was set upon by security guards after a dispute over pricing.

The news comes as the company continues to face a backlash in the media and online after 11 of its outlets were fined US$76,000 for dishonest pricing practices last month.

The outlets were deemed to have misled consumers by claiming the original prices on discounted items were higher than they were, making the discounts seem more attractive, and by charging more than the prices listed on advertisements, reported the newspaper.

The company has also drawn fire over its treatment of suppliers, according to a report in the China Daily. Many suppliers have sought official intervention to assist in negotiations with the company, reported the newspaper.
