French retail giant Carrefour has appointed a new Malaysia and Singapore chief to spearhead its expansion in the region.
Former vice-president of Carrefour China Stephane Deutsch replaced Guillaume de Colonges as head of Carrefour Malaysia and Singapore on March 21, according to Malaysia's The Sun Daily, and is poised to open new stores in the area.
In a press release, Carrefour said Mr Deutsch had been instrumental in the strategic growth of Carrefour in China, and held the reputation of more than 20 new store openings per year.
Mr Deutsch, a French national with 21 years' experience in retail, told his new team at Carrefour Malaysia and Singapore: "I am extremely proud that Carrefour was the first hypermarket in Malaysia, and I believe that our expansion plans will give confidence to our customers that we will always be here for them."
Carrefour expansion in Malaysia is imminent, he added, but equally important for the group is to achieve good results through understanding and exceeding customer expectations.
