Rumours of a tie-up between French retail giant Carrefour and India’s Future Group are circulating around India’s media following a discreet meeting between the heads of the two companies.
Carrefour global CEO Lars Olofsson and Future Group CEO Kishore Biyani met late last week, visiting on Saturday a number of Big Bazaar and Food Bazaar stores in Delhi, reported the Economic Times.
The speculation about a possible joint venture has so far drawn no comment from either retailer.
Carrefour and the Future Group were reported to be in the advanced stage of talks on a supply chain joint venture back in January.
While no concrete announcements resulted from those discussions, they did highlight what each retailer has to gain from a tie-up between the two; namely Carrefour’s funds and Future Group’s feet on the ground in India.
