Peruvian agricultural giant Camposol plans to expand by 50 per cent its avocado supply this year, with the Hass variety accounting for 90 per cent of the volume.
With such solid growth in the pipeline, the company claims it is still on course to become the biggest avocado producer in the future.
“We already have 2,600ha planted on the coast of Peru and we are analysing other opportunities in other regions,” Camposol's chief commercial officer, José Antonio Gómez, told Americafruit, Asiafruit and Eurofruit.
“Furthermore, we are developing sourcing from associated producers in order to increase the offer in terms of volume and also to expand the supply window.”
At the end of last year Camposol signed a partnership with Agricom Chile in order to better supply the European market.
“We believe this partnership will offer a better sourcing platform for many retailers on the market,” noted Sergio Torres, general manager of Camposol Fresh, the group’s European import and sales subsidiary in the Netherlands.
“This year we plan to maintain our position in all the markets and try to develop direct programmes with retailers, especially in Europe.”
