Leading Australian fresh produce company OneHarvest is looking to offload a number of Australia’s largest commercial mango orchards, as it strengthens its focus on its growing freshcut salads, beetroot and baby leaf farming businesses.
The sale involves four orchards in Darwin, Katherine and Mataranka in the Northern Territory.
The orchards comprise a total land area of 1,311ha, with around 523ha devoted to 140,000 established trees of Calypso, a high yielding mango that is one of the country’s most recognisable brands. The orchards produce 40 per cent of the total annual supply of Calypso, with an average tree age of 10 years.
OneHarvest sold the exclusive marketing rights to Calypso to fellow Australian produce business Perfection Fresh Australia in July this year.
Perfection believes Calypso has considerable export potential, with over 700,000kg of the fruit marketed internationally over the 2016 financial year.
