Indian wholesale giant Bharti Walmart has opened its first store in the southern state of Andhra Pradesh, with another scheduled to open soon in Guntur.
According to report on the Imagesfood website, Bharti Walmart CEO and managing director Raj Jain said the 4,900m2 store would provide over 500 products, including fresh, frozen and chilled produce to vendors, restaurants, institutions and offices.
According to Mr Jain, the company planned to establish a training centre in Hyderabad to teach youth in the state sales and consumer care skills.
Bharti Walmart would also endeavour to source fresh produce directly from farmers in the region and encourage the formation of cooperatives to supply the retailer.
He added that the company would also try to pay a fair price to farmers who stood to benefit from growth in the state’s retail sector.
