Rajan Bharti Mittal, co-chairman of Bharti, told employees during a leadership team meeting that the company would not sell off its retail business that includes 200 Easyday supermarkets, reports the Times of India.
According to company insiders, Mittal quelled speculation it would exit the retail business, announcing that Bharti was looking for a partnership with a global retailer.
Previous partnerships with foreign companies have failed, with Bharti and Walmart’s six-year partnership ending in October 2013, and recent efforts to start up a joint cash-and-carry venture between Bharti and French retailer Carrefour being put on ice.
