Pakistani mango exports to Australia are expected to receive a boost after the Australian Government announced amendments to its import restrictions, now allowing irradiated fresh mangoes into the country.
The Australian High Commission in Islamadad, Pakistan, announced the changes on 8 July, stating that the 'new measure will see Pakistan mangoes more widely available in the Australian marketplace for Australians to enjoy'.
Exporters could previously ship mangoes that had undergone hot water dipping treatment, but can now export fresh mangoes that have undergone irradiation at a minimum dose of 400 Gy, with the irradiated fruit required to be labelled accordingly at point of sale under Australia’s food regulations.
