Thys du Toit, manager of the South African citrus improvement scheme, said that it is important to maintain a tight control over who breeds citrus trees, according to ABC rural
'With all the other viruses (in South Africa), it's cleaned off before it's released to the citrus foundation block, where it's increased and supplied to the nurseries,' said Mr du Toit.
Mr du Toit added that while the two countries' industries were not really that different, consumer demand had dictated the diverse directions that they had moved in.
