Singapore-based container shipping line APL is to launch a new intra-Asia service linking China and Indonesia on November 14.

APL's new China Indonesia Straits Service will employ four 3,000 teu capacity vessels on a weekly service between eastern and southern Chinese ports, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia.

Commenting on the launch, APL vice-president of Intra-Asia Trade Jason Wong said: 'We're addressing the ever-increasing requirement for direct-call service to key Asian growth markets.'

The service, which debuts from Shanghai with the sailing of the APL Sydney, is the third new dedicated Intra-Asia service introduced by APL since 2009, and will be among the industry's fastest from China into Jakarta and Surabya, APL said in a press release.

The port rotation includes Shanghai, Ningbo, Xiamen, Chiwan, Singapore, Jakarta, Surabya, Jakarta, Port Klang (Westport), Singapore, Laem Chabang and Shanghai.

APL is a global container shipping business offering more than 60 weekly services, and over 500 calls at 140+ ports worldwide.
