Lenne takes over role from Chris Fairless, who headed up the organisation’s pear activities for the past eight years
Apple and Pear Australia (Apal) has appointed grower Matthew Lenne as director of its pear division.
The announcement was made during the organisation’s annual general meeting, which was held in Melbourne on Monday 18 November.
“Matthew’s appointment strengthens Apal’s leadership team, affirming the organisation’s focus on advancement and sustainability,” the group said in a statement.
Lenne joins another recently appointed board member, Lisa May, who began her term as independent chair in June 2024.
“Their diverse backgrounds and expertise will undoubtedly enhance Apal’s strategic direction,” it added.
Meanwhile, Joe Ceravolo and Mark Scott were re-elected as board members for South Australia and Western Australia respectively.
The association also acknowledged the “valuable contributions” of outgoing Apal directors Chris Fairless and Reg Weine.
“Their commitment and hard work have left a lasting impact on Apal and the wider Australian horticulture industry, and their contributions are deeply valued.”
