Antony Greenstein has been appointed as the new managing director of Capespan’s Asian marketing subsidiary, Metspan, and will take over the reins at the company at the beginning of November.
Louis Kriel, CEO of Capespan’s Fruit Division, announced Mr Greenstein’s appointment in Cape Town on Thursday, saying that the Capespan Group was pleased that he would be returning to Metspan. “Antony has 21 years of experience in fruit marketing and distribution and is well placed to guide us through the ambitious expansion plans we have for the Far East markets,” Kriel told Fruitnet.com.
Greenstein left Metspan in 2005 to pursue other business interests and has since then worked in various partnerships, amongst them with Kerry Logistics. Before leaving Metspan, he pioneered the Capespan Group’s direct supermarket business development in Asia.
Greenstein will now return to his old stomping ground, which has changed somewhat since he left. In recent times Capespan acquired full control over Metspan and also announced its investment in Golden Wing Mau in China. Metspan’s present operations cover the entire Far East region with the exception of Japan and China.
The return of Greenstein to Metspan also marks the end of an era for well-known fruit industry figure Gerd Born, who will be retiring from Metspan in January 2012. “Mr Born will gradually relinquish his responsibilities between now and January,” said Kriel.
