Departing managing director for Aeon’s Malaysian operations, Nagahisa Oyama, revealed details of the company’s plans to increase its outlets there from 27 to 100 by 2020.
“This year we will open a new community shopping centre in Rawang, Selangor and plan to open a second shopping centre in Ipoh next year, with both having a total investment of M$300m (US$99m),” he told Malaysian newspaper Bernama.
The company also plans to open a headquarters in Malaysia and another in Beijing, China, according to Mr Oyama.
Expansion into Vietnam in 2013, and Cambodia and Indonesia in 2014, was also on the cards, said Mr Oyama, adding that the company hoped to be amongst the top three retailers in the Asian market by 2020, generating total sales of M$45bn.
Meanwhile, Nur Qamarina Chew has been appointed as the new Managing Director of Aeon’s Malaysian operations. Mr Oyama will take up the positions of vice president and chief executive officer.
