Aeon Group’s expansion into China continues, with the Japanese retail giant opening its first Chinese MaxValu store in Guangzhou, Guangdong province.
Aeon sees a bright future for the premium food supermarket chain in China, with a second store to be opened in Suzhou, Jiangsu province, later this year.
The company plans to open 100 MaxValu stores around China by 2020.
MaxValu’s introduction means Aeon now has all three of its retail brands - Jusco, MaxValu and Aeon Mall – operating in the Chinese market.
Japanese wholesaler Mitsubishi Shokhin will help operate the MaxValu stores but Aeon said less than 5 per cent of the products will be imported from Japan.
More than 1,500 MaxValu stores operate around the world.
