Carrefour announced on Wednesday (31 October) it has finalised the sale of its Malaysian operations to Japanese retail giant Aeon for an enterprise value of US$323.95m.
Prior to the sale, Carrefour was the fourth-largest retailer in Malaysia operating 26 hypermarkets, which during the 12 months to 30 June brought in US$518m in revenue, according to a Reuters report.
'The transaction is part of Carrefour's strategy of refocusing on its core activities and allocating its resources to mature countries where it occupies strong and established positions and emerging markets where it has strong growth potential,' the company said in a statement.
