Aditya Birla Retail will open 10 hypermarkets and up to 100 supermarkets before the end of the Indian fiscal year on 31 March next year, company CEO Thomas Varghese said this week.
The hypermarkets will be built in cities like Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Mumbai, while the supermarkets will sprout in smaller centres, the Economic Times reported.
Each hypermarket is expected to cost the company around Rs160m, and around Rs4m per supermarket, according to Mr Varghese.
At present, Aditya Birla has 540 supermarkets and six hypermarkets in India, and with the addition of the 10 new hypermarkets will become the country's second-largest operator.
