Fresh produce retail has hit the road in India, with the launch of Taaza Plaza. The mobile concept store is aiming to eradicate excess costs and supply chain inefficiencies by directly sourcing fresh fruit and vegetables from grower groups around the country, then delivering its offerings to consumers via its fleet of vans.
Taaza Plaza was launched in Mumbai and will initially service the state of Maharashtra, with customers lodging orders via telephone or the company’s website.
Sharmila Banerjee, founder and chief executive of Taaza Plaza, said the company was hoping to have 250 of its retail vans operating within the next three years.
“Our business model will help in stabilising prices of daily commodities in the long run,” Banerjee said.
“We look forward to growing into a pan India brand serving customers across various states in the next 36 months.
“Through Taaza Plaza, we aim to create a robust supply chain of fruits, vegetables and commodities through mobile vans and to bring our products and services at the doorsteps of the customer at fair prices across the nation.”
Taaza Plaza is the result of a joint venture between Star Agriwarehousing and Collateral Management, along with Fuzion and the Maharashtra State Agriculture Marketing Board.
