Consumers in Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Chengdu will soon be greeted with a new fresh food shopping experience as JD plans to open 16 new locations for its premium 7Fresh stores.
The company has currently signed agreements with real-estate companies in its bid to expand.
Fresh produce makes up 70 per cent of the stores offerings, with 20 per cent of products sourced directly from international suppliers. The company says these suppliers have been vetted by JD, ensuring food safety.
The stores will sport the same features as 7Fresh stores in Beijing, with leafy green produce restocked within 24hrs, cooking options onsite, and cutting-edge technology providing information and convenience. The store’s signature ‘magic mirrors’ will display product information when they sense a customer picking up fresh produce.
“7Fresh redefines the offline retail experience by combining the best parts of fresh grocery markets and top-quality restaurants with cutting edge e-commerce technology,” said Xiaosong Wang, CEO of 7FRESH.
“With the expansion of 7Fresh into more cities across China, we are bringing ‘Boundaryless Retail’ to even more shoppers for an incredibly convenient and enjoyable way to buy fresher, safer and more reliable products.”
Targeting the shoppers is also another feature that JD can use its technology to optimise. Through its customer profiles, the company can determine the best store locations, and improve inventory management for each store’s unique needs. 30-mninute delivery will of course also be a feature for online shoppers.
