In the second quarter (Q2) of the year, industry dollar sales for both avocados and mangoes hit record highs, it noted.

Avocado sales in the US came in at US$938.1m, a 19 per cent increase on the corresponding period of 2023, while mangoes reached US$155.4m, up 4 per cent.

“The strong category performance of avocados and mangoes in Q2 is a testament to the value of these commodities in the consumer diet,” said Cheryl Hoefs, senior vice-president of sales and marketing.

“As we look forward to a promising second half of 2024, Mission Produce is committed to bringing profitable opportunities to our partners by leveraging our award-winning category management service, powered by AvoIntel.

”This fall, as consumers shift focus to back-to-school meal planning and football season, we’re helping our customers drive demand and maximise profitability through strategic programming, promotion support, and cross-merchandising,” she added.

”With our customer-tailored ripe programmes and unparalleled supply reliability, Mission Produce is the preferred industry partner for both avocados and mangoes.”

Mission said that, as the summer avocado seasons out of California, Peru and Colombia wound down, it was preparing to supply autumn promotions with avocados from Mexico and Chile.

In the mango market, it said that high-quality Kent, Keitt and Honey mangoes continued to arrive from Mexico, and the Brazilian mango season is anticipated to start ramping up by early September.
