Israel adds new water technologies in drip drip approach to exports
With water scarcity becoming a global problem, many countries have embarked on projects aimed at introducing new technologies for saving water, supporting programmes for desalination, recycling and use of marginal water for agriculture and industry. The global water trade is estimated at US$400 billion (£202bn) a year. Israel, which introduced drip irrigation to the world, is now introducing new technologies developed by young entrepreneurs. The country’s export of water technologies amounted in 2006 to US$1bn, and it is planned that within 10 years, the export will surge to US$10bn per year, writes Aaron Priel.
