Packaging specialists Multivac and DS Smith have teamed up to design and produce ECO Bowl, a new sustainable solution for fresh foods in modified atmosphere packaging based on corrugated cardboard.
ECO Bowl is a fully recyclable corrugated cardboardtray covered with a plastic skin film and lid film that reduces plastic by up to 85 per cent versus a traditional tray.
To eliminateexcess packaging, ECO Bowl’splastic skin and lid film can be easily removed for disposal, leaving the corrugated tray for recycling.The ECO Bowl allows for easyand effectiveimplementation for customers–itis designed to run on Multivac thermoforming packaging machines and tray sealersandcanguarantee equal shelf-life when compared with conventionalmodified atmospherepackaging for fresh food, or even improve it.
ECO Bowl has already been tested in the market withamidori, a German producer of plant-based meat alternatives which started using the packs at the end of 2019.
