Organic distributor OTC-Holland has announced that it has expanded its assortment by adding year-round organic limes from Colombia.
After what the company called an 'intense period of preparation, analysis and exploration', it has teamed with a Colombian growers cooperative for the development of an organic limes project.
Organic limes from Colombia were not previously available at OTC, with the first shipment arriving at the OTC biohandling centre in Poeldijk, The Netherlands.
'Due to the high demand for organic limes from the market, we started to develop this project,' noted Alexander Restrepo, product development manager at OTC. 'Thanks to the 35 certified local growers who are part of this project and a local exporter, we can provide our customers with organic limes throughout the year.'
The lime cultivation area is located in the south of Colombia at 400m above sea level, which is seen as an ideal area for cultivating limes, with relatively low rainfall and good irrigation possibilities.
Thanks to its favourable microclimate, the Tahiti lime has an intense green colour and solid skin, and they are available year-round.
