Hortifrut Peru is to launch three new blueberry varieties next year. Production director Rafael Quevedo Sturla said the launch was the culmination of a project started six years ago to develop new blueberry varieties within the country.
“We as Hortifrut are always combining two factors: production and efficiency. Furthermore, we always seek profitability for producers, so by mixing that we will be able to advance with our genetic program. We are very excited about what is happening in Peru,” he toldblueberriesconsulting.com.
Hortifrut grows more than 16 varieties of blueberry over 1,800ha in Peru’s Chao Valley region in La Libertad. It also owns a 4ha trial farm and two nurseries with a capacity to produce 6.5m plants in Peru.
