Leading Thai retailer Siam Makro has named Myanmar, Vietnam and Indonesia as priority markets to expand into, according to the Bangkok Post.
The subsidiary of the Charoen Pokphan Group, or CP Group, that operates Makro Cash & Carry stores has also conducted feasibility studies into the region and plans to open stores in Myanmar as soon as possible, subject to regulatory conditions.
Siam Makro chief executive Suchada Ithijarukul told the Thai daily that the company met the Thai ambassador in Yangon, Myanmar, in order to discuss market opportunities in the country.
'The boom of tourism in Myanmar is also an opportunity forMakro,'Suchada said, adding that Makro’s range of store formats and sizes gave it more scope to enter into different markets.
