India remains one of the worlds leading cashew exporters, despite a decline in the country’s raw nut production, according to The Hindu Business Line.
Pratap Nair, the International Nut and Dried Fruit Council’s Indian ambassador, told Business Line production volumes of raw Indian cashews has fallen below 50 per cent of the industry’s processing capacity.
However, Indian cashew still account for around 30 per cent of the nut’s global exports.
Vietnam has replace India as the world leading cashew exporter within the last two years, accounting for 39 per cent of the global market.
Nair said the total global production volume for tree nuts in 2012 was 3.5m tonnes, a 5.5 per cent increase from the previous year.
