The National Association of Farmers' Markets (NAFM) has awarded certification to 75 markets across the UK in the first year of the 'gold standard' scheme.

The scheme was launched June 1 last year and aims to reward the markets that uphold the criteria of fresh, local and own produce with a distinctive logo.

NAFM co-ordinator, James Pavitt said: 'With more applications in the pipeline it won't be long before there is a NAFM certified farmers' market in every county.' NAFM would like every farmers market in the UK to become certified to help preserve them as popular venues for local farmers and producers who wish to sell direct to the public.
