Compass has announced a series of contract gains and said that trading in the first four months of its 2004 financial year had been strong.

Among the contract wins or renewals were deals to provide catering to New York’s Strathmore museum and Marseille’s public hospital system, and a 20-year contract with prison authorities in San Juan, Chile.

The catering group said that there was signs of economic recovery in certain geographies - thought to include the US and the UK, but added that it was too early to confirm this a trend.

The group said its contract retention rate remained at 95 per cent. It added that it remained on course to deliver at six per cent like-for-like turnover growth.
